VIEW FROM THE CHAIR FEBRUARY 2020

Just two months left of the Indoor shooting season, hope all is going well with you lovely Notts archers and for those clubs entered in the Portsmouth and Frostbite postal leagues, hope you are getting good results. I’m looking forward to the county Indoor Championships this Sunday 2nd February at Joseph Whitaker sports hall (Sherwood Archers). My understanding is the tournament is fully booked. Honoured to have been asked to be Lord Patron for the day, I will be spending all day there and shooting the last session (with my recurve). Let everyone shoot well and most importantly have fun.

February 16th is the county team selection shoot for the county clout team, held at Sherwood Archers. This will be the team that will shoot the EMAS inter-counties team clout match, I wish all that try for the team good luck.

I would like to thank all the archers that support the county & club shoots during the year.

It is now official; World Archery has recognised barebow and introduced the 72-arrow round @ 50 metres on a 122cm face. I will keep in touch with AGB and my friendly judges to see how it will be introduced over here. For those interested (World Archery rule book issued 15th January 2020). Use the link below;

I was asked a question regarding barebow and longbow not being in the Nottinghamshire county junior team. After checking with Charlotte Attwood (junior team manager), found that the ruling comes from EMAS. In my opinion, to encourage and promote barebow & longbow we need to start with the young. If you shoot barebow and reach a good standard, then the door is closed in your face regarding county team, it is obvious that to progress you need to install a sight and stabilisers. If we can partition EMAS to introduce barebow and longbow, then maybe juniors can stay with their discipline and look forward to progressing onto county teams and maybe even continuing into adulthood as barebow.

On Monday 13th January I chaired my first committee meeting at the village hall / Barnstone, as our normal venue was temporarily unavailable. I hope I didn’t make too much of a hash of it, definitely nervous with a lot of business to attend too. Thanks to everyone who turned up. I look forward to seeing more clubs represented at the next meeting on the 13th April.

Shoot well.

Chairman
